Police Clearance for TESOL Practicum

Police Reference Check Instructions:
Application Process For TESOL Practicum Students Within TCDSB

The following must be submitted either in-class, if you are currently enrolled in Intro to the Practicum (TSL562H) or at the TESOL office, 119 St. George St. Third floor, by Thursday July 12. This will cover the Fall 2012, Winter 2013, or Summer 2013 Practicum.

Instructions for TORONTO residents* (The applicant’s home address postal code begins with “M”)

  • Complete and submit the Police Reference Check  (in 8.5” x 14”/legal size format) form. The Reference Check form is available at the TESOL office; you can fill it out when you drop off your other forms. It will also be distributed in class if enrolled in TSL562 Introduction to the Practicum.
  • Bring in 2 pieces of ID issued by government that confirm the name, date of birth and address; one of them must include a photo for verification (e.g. driver’s licence, health card, permanent resident card, passport, birth certificate, etc.).
  • Submit a photocopy of the 2 pieces ofl ID. (This photocopy will be attached to the application for submission to the TCDSB). Applications cannot be accepted without a photocopy of all ID.
  • Submit $16.95 (paid by a money order or certified cheque)  payable to TORONTO POLICE SERVICEA personal cheque or cash is not acceptable. The application cannot be accepted without the money order or certified cheque.
  • Police Services will be mailing the results of the police reference checks directly to the individual’s home address.   TESOL students must bring the original and, most importantly, a COPY to the first Practicum class.
  • The completion of the process usually takes approximately about 10 to 12 weeks.
  • The uncompleted forms will be returned to school.
  • At the discretion of the principal and if the volunteer is known to the school, the volunteer may start their involvement in the school while the police check process is underway.
  • If a volunteer/co-op student has a police clearance (Vulnerable Sector Screening) done through another agency within the last one year, please submit a copy in class or to the TESOL office by the Police Clearance application deadline.

* NON-TORONTO residents must go directly to the main police service in their area to get the police check with the VULNERABLE SECTOR SCREENING.
