Academic Integrity & Policies

“The University and its members have a responsibility to ensure that a climate which might encourage, or conditions which might enable, cheating, misrepresentation or unfairness not be tolerated. To this end, all must acknowledge that seeking credit or other advantages by fraud or misrepresentation, or seeking to disadvantage others by disruptive behaviour is unacceptable, as is any dishonesty or unfairness in dealing with the work or record of a student.”

The ability to think critically and to write well-organized, clear, grammatical prose is important to your work in many courses. It will improve your chances if you apply to graduate or professional schools and will also give you an advantage in the workplace. To help you develop your writing skills, the university provides a range of instructional resources.

The Writing Centres, provided free of charge at undergraduate colleges, will help you develop the writing skills needed throughout your university studies. They offer both individual and group instruction.  In individual consultations, trained writing instructors help you improve your ability to plan, write, and revise, using your assignments from any subject as examples. Some instructors specialize in the needs of students using English as a second language.

As members of the University of Toronto community, students assume certain responsibilities and are guaranteed certain rights and freedoms.

The University has several policies that are approved by the Governing Council and which apply to all students. Each student must become familiar with the policies. The University will assume that he or she has done so. The rules and regulations of the Faculty are listed in this calendar. In applying to the Faculty, the student assumes certain responsibilities to the University and the Faculty and, if admitted and registered, shall be subject to all rules, regulations and policies cited in the calendar, as amended from time to time.
