2012 WOLF – (Woodsworth Orientation for Life After Frosh) Coordinators  (2 positions)

Job Description & Expectations

Term of Employment:  March 1st, 2012 – October 1st, 2012 (part time)

The Role of the WOLF Coordinators

The WOLF coordinators plan, coordinate, oversee and evaluate the academic portions of the Woodsworth Orientation Week.  They do this working closely with the WCSA Vice President of Social Affairs, two Orientation Coordinators (OC’s), and the Office of the Dean of Students.  The primary purpose of the Orientation week is to help acclimatize incoming students to University life.  It gives them the opportunity to meet with their peers in a friendly environment and engages them through a series of social and academic activities.

The Wolf Coordinators will be responsible for planning and implementing programming for Wolf aspects of Orientation.  This programming will encompass all aspects of student life including, but not limited to, academic success information, campus life information, and health and wellness information.  Information will be tailored to our incoming class. 

It is imperative that the Wolf coordinators work closely and collaboratively with the OC’s and WCSA. 

As representatives of the office of the Dean of Students, it is expected that their conduct will serve as a role model for other students.

 

Specific Duties

A.Plan and implement the Woodsworth Orientation for Life after Frosh (WOLF) portion of Orientation, in conjunction with the Association’s Orientation Coordinators and Orientation Management Committee (OMC).

B.Provide updates to the President, the Vice-President of Social Affairs, the Associate Director of Social Affairs, and the Orientation Management committee regarding the operations and ?nances of WOLF on the 1stand 15thof each month

C.Recruit, select, and train a team of competent and suitable WOLF Leaders and WOLF Executives

D.Design a balanced budget for WOLF, which must be presented to the Orientation Management Committee to be approved by the Association;

E.Attend regular OMC meetings, to be chaired by the Vice-President of Social Affairs of the Association;

F.Attend regular meetings hosted by the Office of Student Life throughout the summer to ensure that all events are in keeping with Student Life regulations;

G.Attend monthly Association Board of Director meetings for the duration of this contract and/or submit a board report on the progress of WOLF;

H.Maintain complete and accurate ?nancial records to be submitted to the Vice-President of Financial Affairs before each weekly meeting of the OMC and at all times ensure ?nancial records are available;

I.Prepare and present a written report on WOLF to be submitted to the OMC as part of the Orientation Manual & Report no later than 24 September 2012;

J.Prepare a binder of copies of all receipts and invoices for all WOLF related expenses;

K.Together with the OMC, prepare, develop, and execute Orientation week and WOLF, to a standard which builds on previous Orientation weeks.

L. Keep the Dean of Students (or designate) regularly updated and receive guidance on program development. 
 

Accountability and responsibility

Wolf Coordinators are responsible for the successful planning and execution of the academic orientation sections of Orientation week, and ensuring these events are well thought out, planned, and the content is relevant and pertinent to first year incoming students of all backgrounds.  The Coordinators work for the Dean of Students, but must also work extremely closely with WCSA and in particular the executive and the OC’s.  An excellent working relationship is integral to the success of the program.

Remuneration

The WOLF Coordinator position is a part time position, requiring attendance at meetings and office hours (as listed above).  Much of the preparatory work can be done on a flexible schedule.  During the days leading up to Orientation week, more hours would be expected as well as during the events themselves.  The Coordinators would (of course) be expected at all of their events, and as many of the other events (non academic) as reasonable, to support and show cohesion of the orientation committee. 

We anticipate this position will encompass 135 hours total over the employment period.  Specific breakdown of hours will be determined in conjunction with the Dean of Students.  The rate of pay will be $12 an hour

Requirements

Candidates must have demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to Woodsworth College community.  Extensive knowledge of the resources available at the College and University level is required.  Candidates must have demonstrated program planning skills, presentation skills, interpersonal skills and teamwork.  Candidates must be able to work under pressure, learn quickly, take initiative and have sound judgment and problem solving skills.
