What is UTSU?

UTSU stands for the University of Toronto Students' Union.
UTSU offers a variety of services for students, including Health and Dental Plans, free agenda books and more! Many of UTSU's services are offer year-round, while some are offered only in the Fall and some only in the Winter.
See below for a list of UTSU's services.

Year Round Services (all students can access these):
1. Food and Clothing Bank: Open each Friday (except Good Friday) between 12:00-3:00. Bring your t-card to register for the service at 569 Spadina Avenue, Multi-Faith Centre. Registration is all year round but only current students will be allowed to access our food bank. There is no cost.

2. Book Exchange Service: Make Money, Save Money. Sell your spring and summer books now through the UTSU Book Exchange. Go to http://www.utsu.ca and hit the book exchange button on the home page. You may also browse through a selection of available books. Use UTSU's service again in the fall for your year-long courses and then again in the winter for half term courses. This service now runs all year long and is a great way to save money and make money. A simple registration is required.

3. Good Food Box: This is a bi-weekly service where fresh produce is delivered to the UTSU office. Prices range from $13 to $34 depending on size of the Good Food Box and is based on whether the box is organic or not. Six options exist and all food is dropped off at UTSU on alternative Wednesdays.

4. Ticket sales: Sales for Metropasses ($104 post-secondary student metropass/to be used with student ID card); AMC and Cineplex Movie tickets, Yuck Yuck's tickets, Wonderland tickets and more. Sales at the front desk during regular business hours M-F 9:00-6:00. Purchase Stop Tags at our office for $20 plus tax. These plates are affixed to your computer and registered with the police. Inquire at our office.

5. *New* Bixi Bikes: As of June 1, Students will be able to purchase a year-long membership with Bixi Bikes for $76 plus tax. This entitles students to use the Bixi Bikes seen around campus. Be advised that there are fees for usage that exceeds 30 minutes on any given trip. Credit card is required for registration. Membership sold at our front desk, debit. More information coming to our website soon.


In the Fall 2012 (UTSU full-time undergraduate students only):
6. Book Bursary: Full-time undergraduates, don't forget to fill out UTSU's book bursary application in the fall for expenses related to textbooks/course books. Forms are available in our office in early September with an early October deadline - check our website for exact deadline as it changes year to year. Submitting receipts and filling out a detailed form are required.

7. Health and Dental Plans: Don't forget that you have a health plan under UTSU if you are a full-time undergraduate student, unless you opt out of it in the fall term. Opting out begins the last week of August and ends the first week of October. If you remain in the program, there is a black out period for new students only and students should hold on to their receipts until the end of November. Those enrolled in the plan are covered from September 1 - August 31 (if you are enrolled in both the fall and winter sessions as a full-time student). If you bring your receipts to our office, we will help you fill out your forms!

8. Dollar for Daycare Bursaries: Available to full-time undergraduate students. Apply starting end of October with a deadline the Friday of Reading Week, February. Applications are evaluated based on need and in line with costs associated with childcare expenses while studying.

Winter Service 2012:
9. Free Income Tax Clinics: Available the last week of March until end of April. The service is primarily for full time undergraduate students but UTSU tries to accommodate all students who want to have their taxes done. The service works best for simple tax returns that need to be filed for the current year. There is an on-line scheduled for full time undergraduates at http://incometax.utsu.ca or hit the income tax button on the home page at http://www.utsu.ca. How do I claim from the UTSU-Accident/Pr Drug Ins?

I enrolled into FAH 486 H1 are there 2 sections in this course (total 4 hours) or does one select ?

Upon looking at the timetable, the two different sections look like they correspond with the different objects in the Case Study.

Could you elaborate more on specialist, major and minor programs

Arts and Science students who have completed a minimum of 4.0 credits toward their degree are required to enrol in a suitable combination of Programs of Study (POSts). Allowable combinations include:

* One Specialist
* Two Majors
* One Major + Two Minors

First Year Students do not need to enroll in a subject POST until the end of their First Year (completion of 4 FCEs).
